Bangladesh on top??

What is up with this? The worst cricket playing country in the world and they absolutely made the best cricket team in the world look worse than the team I played on in the under 14’s league. Two of their players scored more than 50 and another scored his first ever 100. All this against a bowling attack that is going to be the future of Australian Cricket. Australia needs to find a consistent strike bowler to eventually replace Glenn McGrath - at the moment they have no-one that is anywhere near as consistent as he is. If this is what life after McGrath is going to be like, Australia could be heading into a period that resembles what it was like after Australia lost Dennis Lillee, Greg Chappell, and Rod Marsh in the early 80’s (on a side-note - what a glorious period for Aussie moustaches!).

I haven’t seen the manner in which the Australian batsman were dismissed, but I highly doubt it was anything to do with quality bowling. Were they playing rash shots or were they just outclassed by the bowling??

Australia needs to put some runs on the board if they want to have any hope of salvaging this match. If they lose to Bangladesh, it will go down as one of the worst defeats in the history of Australian sport - even more embarrasing than losing the Ashes to England last year.

MacGill took 8 wickets though. Not bad for a “second rate” Leg Spinner. Probably something to do that this match is not being played on a ‘pitch’ as such, the wicket is more like rolled clay.

Still, Bangladesh scored 427 against the best team in the world. What do you think the chances are that McGrath will play again?

I think as long as his wife is not getting worse he will play in the upcoming Ashes, and then retire.
At least Gilchrist is back in form this game. I’m suprised that Gillespie made the team ahead of Tait - although Hohns quiting as Chairman of Selectors may be a bigger factor in the return of Gillespie. In fact, given Mark Waugh was booted out under the Hohns regime of terror, maybe Mark Waugh will come out of retirement and play for Australia again!

Not to mention Steve Waugh. Although I’m sure Allan Border had more to do with getting rid of Steve than anyone else. Didn’t want to see his precious record go to someone more deserving.

That’s a bit harsh, I reckon. AB was an awesome player at a time when Australia didn’t have many of them, and I think he deserves a hell of a lot of credit for the turnaround from the mid-80s doldrums.

AB does deserve a lot of credit for turning the game around in Australia. I still think he could have handled the Steve Waugh thing a little better too! You know how I am when it comes to Steve Waugh, Jim!

Some of the wickets were fluky - Martyn’s delivery stayed low. Some of the others were good pieces of bowling - Clarke was done by a gem.

All out for 269 - you guys will do well to win this test, or even draw it.

I’m hoping to get a torrent so I can catch some of the action. No-one seems to be sharing though.

The score today looks a little bit more promising. If we can bowl them out without giving up another 50 runs we should be in good shape.
